The 40th Anniversary Mark Six Lottery Prizes Have Been Lifted

For over 40 years, the Hong Kong Mark Six lottery has brought hope and benefits to countless people across the territory. Now, in its 40th anniversary draw, the Club has lifted the prize money for all grades of racing from Class 1 to Griffin to ensure that the game remains a valuable resource for society, benefiting a wide variety of individuals.

The prizes will be awarded to those who have contributed to the development of Hong Kong’s scientific and technological innovation, including the areas of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Life and Science, New Materials and New Energy, Advanced Manufacturing, and FinTech. Nominees must be a native or resident of East Asia. In principle, candidates should be under 50 years of age at the time of nomination (exceptional cases may be considered).

This year’s awardees include epeeist Vivian Kong Man-wai and foilist Cheung Ka-long, who will each receive HK$6 million for their gold medal achievements at the Paris Games. This makes Hong Kong the highest paying Olympic city in the world, ahead of Singapore and Chinese Taipei.

It is also Hong Kong that has given the most Olympic medals to female athletes, with a total of 16 at this year’s games. These include swimmer Siobhan Haughey, whose two bronze medals earned her HK$1.5 million.

According to the organisers of the BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE, young researchers are key to the technological development in the city and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This is why the nomination scope for this year’s BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Innovator Award was expanded to cover research-related institutions set up by Hong Kong higher education institutions in the Greater Bay Area, enabling more scientists to be nominated.

In addition to the HK$2,000,000 prize fund, BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY innovators will receive a certificate of award and a trophy. They are also eligible for a range of support from the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation, which will help them to commercialize their innovations.

The Secretariat of BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PRIZE, which is operated by the Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre, shoulders the responsibilities of implementing the decisions made by the Board, Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team, as well as the duties of liaison and coordination between them; conducting evaluation activities; organizing award ceremonies and interdisciplinary academic and science popularization events. It is important to ensure the fairness and objectivity of the evaluation process and to promote professionalism in the field of award work.

BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY will continue to support the development of Hong Kong’s science and technology, and encourage more scientists to work together for the betterment of humanity. In this spirit, the BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE has published the Charter of Conduct for the Selection Committee. The document is available online for public viewing here. To promote a transparent and objective selection process, the prize-awarding body reserves the right to amend the Charter from time to time.
