The HK Prize and the HK Film Awards

hk prize is a platform for individuals to showcase their ideas, contributions and innovations for shaping Hong Kong’s role in global development. With monetary prizes and access to one of the world’s leading research facilities, the competition offers an exciting opportunity for young scientists.

This year, the prize celebrates heroes who strive to make a difference in the lives of their fellow citizens and beyond. From journalists who expose human rights violations to scientists who developed a liquid biopsy to detect cancer earlier, the prize honours their selfless dedication in making our world a better place.

Studies show that Hong Kong gives out the most Olympic prize money of any region in Asia. Fencers Vivian Kong Man-wai and Edgar Cheung Ka-long each received six million dollars for winning gold medals at the Paris Games, while swimmer Siobhan Haughey picked up two bronzes. These athletes are just a small sample of the many individuals and organisations who have received HK prizes for their outstanding achievements.

The BOCHK Science and Technology Innovation Prize is open to Hong Kong university researchers working in the fields of artificial intelligence and robotics, life and health, new materials and new energy, advanced manufacturing and fintech. Each recipient receives a cash award of HK$2 million, a certificate and a trophy. No more than five persons (or teams) will be awarded in each field of reward per year.

Founded in 1996, the prize is named after George B. Endacott, a professor who played a crucial part in re-establishment of the department of history and helped to establish it as a respectable field of study in the 1950s. The scholarship is offered to a research postgraduate student who excels in history.

In line with the scientific and rigorous standards, the operation of HK prize is performed professionally and objectively by an independent review committee. No organisation or individual may exert undue influence on the selection process.

The HK Film Awards are open to films that satisfy at least two criteria: the film director is a Hong Kong resident, or at least one of the production companies is registered in Hong Kong, or the film was commercially released in Hong Kong in the previous calendar year. The HK Film Awards also feature an Asian Film category, which allows the submission of non-Hong Kong films that exemplify themes relevant to Hong Kong. The judging panel includes industry experts and representatives from the public. The decision of the jury is final. No appeals will be accepted. Applicants must agree to the Terms and Conditions of the Competition in order to qualify for the award. If the application does not meet the requirements of the competition, it will be disqualified. The HK Film Awards Secretariat will notify all shortlisted candidates and winners by email in late January 2023. In addition to the monetary prize, winners of the Young Artist Division will be invited to join HKGNA’s Fellowship program and have the opportunity to participate in HKGNA’s upcoming concert events and masterclasses.
